Hamilton Academy is pleased to be able to offer all pupils the opportunity to have a hot meal at lunchtime. It has been shown that a proper lunch helps children concentrate better in the afternoon and gives them the energy they need for their busy lives.

The normal menu costs £2.30 per child, except on Mondays when there is the "Marvellous Monday Menu  - a meat free choice which comprises a jacket potato or pasta and we charge the discount price of £1.80 per child instead of £2.30

From the normal menu, children are able to choose from the selection of one meat, one halal option and one vegetarian option. 

The children choose on the day as making choices is part of enabling the children to become independent thinkers and learners.

Our menus are nutritionally balanced and run on a five week cycle.

Payment is via the cash less ParentPay system. ParentPay allows you to put money on your child’s account and then they can 'buy' a lunch.

Your child's ParentPay account must be in credit before your child may have a meal.

PLEASE NOTE: New government scheme - As of September 2014, ALL Key Stage 1 children are entitled to a free hot lunch. (***more info on this below***)

From September 2014, as part of the Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) legislation, the children in Reception and Years 1 and 2 have been able to have a free meal daily.  The government initially instigated this as a free service for the academic year 2014-15, and it has been continued.  All children will be offered a meal – including a hot meal option - but parents have the choice not to participate by sending their child in with a packed lunch.

In order for us to administer the new UIFSM, all children in Reception and Years 1 and 2 will be recorded on the ParentPay system and we encourage all parents to activate their ParentPay account – information on this will be sent out to parents as soon as the children have started school in September.   This system will also be used to collect payments for future trips and events.


Hamilton uses the ParentMail system to communicate with parents: class letters will be sent via ParentMail and put on the website, as well as information on events and Friends of Hamilton activities.  A letter will be sent home at the start of next term explaining how to register – we would encourage you to ENSURE you do this so you are kept up-to-date with information relevant to your child and school events.  This system also includes a text service which we use in the event of an emergency such as bad weather or unforeseen circumstances.


For children whose parents are on a low income or on benefits the school strongly encourage you to also register for "Free School Meals" as this is the trigger for the additional Pupil Premium payment to the school from the government. These funds are a very important part of the income the school uses to enhance the children's learning. The process for applying is very simple.
